Orthotics & Arch Support

Arch supports are a product used to support painful flat feet. They are premolded and generally can provide some rigid support. They can be used in many types of shoes, but usually not in a fashion shoe. We use pre-molded arch supports for many different condtions as an initial treatment, especially for heel pain or fasciitis. Many of our patients enjoy them so much they continue to wear them even after their pain has gone away. Patients frequently purchase addtional pairs to use in other shoes. Pre-fabricated arch supports should be replaced every 6-12 months.

Custom fabricated orthotics are a type of arch support made from a cast or mold of the patient's feet. This cast is sent along with the doctor's perscription, to a precision laboratory to fabricate a custom made arch support. The support is made from a plastic or fiberglass polymer and can often be designed to fit into fashion shoes, if needed. Additional pairs of orthotics can be crafted from the same mold, which is kept on file in digital format.

The impression of your feet is taken either with you seated and the feet 'non-weightbearing' or 'partially weight-bearing'. Functional orthotics, designed to not only support the arch, but also improve the biomechanics of the feet and sometimes even the gait, are casted non-weightbearing. Accomodative orthotics which are designed primarly to support the arch on patients who may have painful joints and arthritis in their feet, knees, hips or back, are casted with the patient partially weight-bearing. Depending on the need, the foot impression is captured in either a fiberglass splint or a foam material.

The price for our pre-fabricated arch supports start at $35.00. Our accomodative orthotics start at $150.00 and our functional orthotics start at $350.00. Some insurance companies cover custom made foot orthoses and some do not.
